We introduced the concept of argan oil in porridge back in 2012 and it's one of our favourite ways to get your spoonful a day. The subtle yet distinct nutty flavour of our oil works very well with porridge and its typical accompaniments. It also adds a valuable element to the texture of your porridge so it's less sticky especially with a water based porridge. This combination is inspired by 'amlou' which is a traditional Berber dip made from ground almonds, argan oil and honey.
Spiced Blackberry, Apple & Almond Argan Oil Porridge
Serves 2
100g porridge oats
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground cardamom
Honey, to taste
250g blackberries
1 apple, thinly sliced or julienned
Almond butter
Handful of pistachios
Arganic argan oil, to serve
- Place the oats in a small saucepan and cover with 250ml water. Allow to soak ideally overnight, or for 30 minutes if you’re short on time.
- Warm the oats in their liquid over a gentle heat, adding the cinnamon, cardamom and a squeeze of honey to taste. Pour in an additional 100ml of water and stir occasionally to ensure the porridge doesn’t catch. Add more water gradually as needed for your required consistency.
- When the porridge is steaming hot (or as per pack instructions), divide between two bowls. Top each with a handful of blackberries, thinly sliced apple, a tablespoon of almond butter and a scatter of pistachios. Finish with a generous drizzle of nutty Arganic argan oil.
